Help Us Create A World Without T1D!
1310 Miles To A Cure
We're running one stride at a time to raise funds to support people living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
Starting in 2015, we began a challenge to run a half-marathon in every state. We also chose to support the Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) due to our daughter being diagnosed with T1D at the age of 20.
Fortunately, due to the research that Breakthrough T1D funds around the world, advances have been made to help those living with this disease to live full and productive lives.
Recent Advancements in Breakthrough T1D Research
Thanks to decades of Breakthrough T1D-funded research, we know what the ingredients are for finding cures for T1D. We must turn off the autoimmune attack that destroys the insulin-producing beta cells and restore insulin production inside or replace them with cells from outside the body. To accomplish that, Breakthrough T1D has three priority areas: Global Universal Screening, Disease-Modifying Therapies, and Cell Therapies.
Screening
There’s a simple blood test that can detect T1D autoantibodies, an established marker of risk of developing T1D. Breakthrough T1D has prioritized the development of a global universal screening strategy that reduces DKA at diagnosis, identifies high-risk individuals for early detection, accelerates the evaluation of disease-modifying therapies, and provides treatment options.
Disease-Modifying Therapies
From stopping the immune attack to regrowing beta cells in the body, Breakthrough T1D’s disease-modifying therapies are a key component of our efforts to find cures for T1D. From people who are not symptomatic yet to people who have lost nearly all insulin production, Disease-modifying therapies are aimed at helping everyone with T1D.
Cell Therapies
Thanks to recent advances, people with T1D could be freed from their blood-glucose monitors and insulin injections for years, or even decades, and enjoy outcomes of improved glucose control and other long-term benefits. The Cell Therapies Program develops therapies that place healthy, insulin-producing beta or islet cells back into the bodies of people with T1D.
Our Story
We began our quest in July, 2015 to run a half marathon in every state! Physical challenges aside, we also wanted to tie a charity to this endeavor. As we were researching various organizations, in early 2016, our daughter, Micaela, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
We decided to join with Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The money we help raise will help Breakthrough T1D fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Your support helps provide hope to those living with this 24/7 disease.

Donation Tracker
Since we started this journey in 2015, our generous supporters have helped raise $40,000 for Breakthrough T1D research, support, and services.
But we're not done yet! With 13 states to go, we are now aiming for $100,000 by end of 2026.
Help us cross that finish line!
All secure donations given through this website go directly to Breakthrough T1D. Rae and Rick Negreann do not use any donated funds towards their travel and marathon expenses. We appreciate any and all amounts. Thank you for supporting Breakthrough T1D which has been so fundamental to our family and millions of others.
